Italian Abstractions
During the summer of 2011, I spent 5 weeks living (and teaching) in Firenze. Being surrounded by so many iconic works of art sometimes felt almost overwhelming, like a voice constantly admonishing me to "appreciate!" Quickly, however, I found myself drawn to the beautiful abstractions that were on old stone walls, marble floors, or decaying concrete facades. Sometimes blasted with graffiti or the remnants of posters, these "found" paintings began to attract my attention more than the endless parade of Renaissance masterpieces. This book includes just a small sampling of my experiences that summer. More of my images from Firenze can be found on its own page.
